The Natural Resources Institute Finland brings together natural resources research in Finland
The Natural Resources Institute Finland, which is commencing operations at the start of the year, will bring together uniquely strong and cross-discipline expertise in forest, agriculture and food industries, and game and fisheries in Finland. The corporate data held by the merging agencies are an enormous resource that open new avenues for research.
The Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) comprises the state research institutes MTT Agrifood Research Finland, the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla), the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute, and the statistical services of the Information Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The task of the new research and expert organisation is to promote competitive business activities based on the sustainable use of renewable natural resources, well-being, and the vitality of rural areas. The Natural Resources Institute Finland supports social decision-making and produces statistics related to food and renewable natural resources. Furthermore, the research institute handles tasks related to ensuring the genetic diversity of cultivated crops, livestock and forest trees.
